Gauge: 6 dc=2”, 10 dc rows= 5”
Materials:
Medium (4) yarn
4mm/G and 5mm/H hook for Newborn size,
All other sizes 5mm/H hook
Tapestry needle
Abbreviations US TERMS:
ch= chain
st(s)= stitch(es)
sc= single crochet
hdc= half double crochet
bpdc= back post double crochet
dc= double crochet
blo= back loop only
slst= slip stitch ** = repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed or repeat from a given set of instructions
sc2tog single crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
dec= decrease
(#)= stitch count
Using an H hook, chain length for desired size from list below
Newborn: chain 33,
3-6mos: chain 35,
6-12mos: chain 37,
Toddler: chain 39,
Child: chain 41,
Women (small adult): chain 43,
Men (large adult): chain 45
Row 1: dc in the 4th chain from the hook and in each st across until there are only 4 sts left, sc in last 4 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: sc in first 4 sts, dc into each st across, ch 3, turn.
Row 3: bpdc in each st across until there are only 4 sts left, blo sc in the last 4 sts, ch 1, turn.
Make sure you have the same number of stitches in each row
Row 4: sc in first 4 sts, dc into each st across, ch 3, turn.
Repeat rows 3-4 until you reach desired width using the list below
Newborn: 15"
3-6mos: 17"
6-12mos: 19"
Toddler: 21"
Child: 23"
Women (small adult): 25"
Men (large adult): 27"
You may have to stretch your rows some to get the proper gauge 10 rows=5”.
Do not finish off
With wrong sides together slst sides closed. When you get to the top of the hat, sc around in every other sc. Finish off, leaving a long tail. Take your tapestry needle and weave through sc's you've just made to drawstring the hat closed, finish off and weave in ends.
Pumpkin Vine
Using a G Hook work vine according to the desired size below
Newborn
chain 64, 3 sc in first 20 sts, Sc in next 8, 3sc across to the end. Do not chain, turn. Slst in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Tuck the 8 sc's under stem when attaching stem to the top of the hat.
3-6mos
chain 68, 3 sc in first 22 sts, Sc in next 8, 3sc across to the end. Do not chain, turn. Slst in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Tuck the 8 sc's under stem when attaching stem to the top of the hat.
6-12mos
chain 72, 3 sc in first 24 sts, Sc in next 8, 3sc across to the end. Do not chain, turn. Slst in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Tuck the 8 sc's under stem when attaching stem to the top of the hat.
Toddler
chain 76, 3 sc in first 26 sts, Sc in next 8, 3sc across to the end. Do not chain, turn. Slst in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Tuck the 8 sc's under stem when attaching stem to the top of the hat.
Child
chain 80, 3 sc in first 28 sts, Sc in next 8, 3sc across to the end. Do not chain, turn. Slst in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Tuck the 8 sc's under stem when attaching stem to the top of the hat.
Women (small adult)
chain 84, 3 sc in first 30 sts, Sc in next 8, 3sc across to the end. Do not chain, turn. Slst in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Tuck the 8 sc's under stem when attaching stem to the top of the hat.
Men (large adult)
chain 88, 3 sc in first 32 sts, Sc in next 8, 3sc across to the end. Do not chain, turn. Slst in each st across. Finish off and weave in ends. Tuck the 8 sc's under stem when attaching stem to the top of the hat.
Twisted Pumpkin Stem
For Newborn size use a G hook
Row 1: Chain 11, in the 3rd chain from the hook, hdc across, ch 2, turn (8)
Row 2: Hdc in the next 6 sts, dec, ch 2, turn (7)
Row 3: Front post hdc across, ch 2, turn (7)
Row 4: Front post hdc in next 5, hdc dec, ch 2, turn (6)
Row 5: Front post hdc across, ch 2, turn (6)
Row 6: Front post hdc in next 4, hdc dec, ch 2, turn (5)
Row 7: Front post hdc across, ch 2, turn (5)
Row 8: Front post hdc in next 3, hdc dec, ch 2, turn (4)
Row 9: Front post hdc across, ch 2, turn (4)
For 3-6mos use a G hook, All other sizes use an H hook
Row 1: Chain 12, in the 2nd chain from hook, Hdc across, ch 2, turn (10)
Row 2: Hdc in next 8 sts, dec, ch 2, turn (9)
Row 3: Front post hdc across, ch 2, turn (9)
Row 4: Front post hdc in next 7, hdc dec, ch 2, turn (8)
Row 5: Front post hdc across, ch 2, turn (8)
Row 6: Front post hdc in next 6, hdc dec, ch 2, turn (7)
Row 7: Front post hdc across, ch 2, turn (7)

For ALL sizes
Put wrong sides together and sl st into the side of first hdc row.
This should create a more seamless rib for finishing.
Knot and whip stitch top like a drawstring and pull closed. Finish off and weave in ends. Along base (flat side) of stem attach new yarn and slst, slst, sc at each ribbing point. Finish off leaving a long tail for attaching to the top of the hat. Give stem a little twist and done. When attaching stem to the hat be sure to slip a few stitches of the vine under in order to secure the vine.
Straight Pumpkin Stem
Newborn use a G hook
Row 1: Chain 10, turn 1. In 2nd chain from hook, hdc across, ch 2, turn (8)
Row 2: Hdc in next 8 sts, ch 2 turn (8)
Row 3-9: Repeat row 2 (8)
For 3-6mos use a G hook, All other sizes use an H hook
Row 1: Chain 12, turn 1. In 2nd chain from hook, hdc across, ch 2, turn (10)
Row 2: Hdc in next 8 sts, ch 2 turn (10)
Row 3-9: Repeat row 2 (10)
For ALL sizes
Put wrong sides together and sl st into the side of first hdc row.
